My design philosophy:

On February 19th, 1880, celebrated designer and design philosopher, William Morris addressed an audience of students, artists, designers and consumers at the Birmingham Society of Arts and School of Design. He spoke quite desperately and emphatically about the state of design at that time…and his message is just as relevant in todays world…

"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful"

In todays world of superfluous gadgets, short product life, manic consumerism and manufacture, we should strive for beautiful, high quality, lasting design - not just blindly lust after the new model. A new design ethos for a more affluent and responsible age might be:

"Own the fewest possible essential, beautiful, quality items to fulfil your needs"

I love design and hate clutter so I believe that every object we possess should be necessary and beautifully designed. Fine art is of course necessary! I also believe that style endures and that expensive, well designed and engineered products offer better value long-term. I apply this philosophy rigorously in my own life and as I result, although I am often skint, I have the daily convenience and pleasure of using objects that are truly fit for purpose and a pleasure to use.

In my work I focus on the necessities of life  and I aim to create modern designs with a timeless beauty and a quality that will last.
